Fighting in East Africa is most well known, however, the war in Africa started in West Africa (Togoland and Kamerun), involved South West Africa (the German colony and Angola), North Africa (Egypt) and the Horn (Somaliland, Darfur and Sudan).

In addition to fighting in Africa, soldiers and labourers from the continent – mainly South and North Africa – saw service in Europe, with others seeing the end of the war in Palestine.
