Land

It might seem odd to include Land as a topic in war, but the diversity of the First World War in Africa makes it seem appropriate. Two main themes fall into this category:
Transport – The most well known is that of the carrier, but animals, armoured cars, bicycles and motorcycles also played their part.
East Africa Road Corps

Accommodation. This varied depending on where people were, what force they served with and what supplies were available. A discussion link on the Great War Forum on Tents gives an idea of the intricacies of accommodation as do photos of hospital bandas and buildings by Dr Norman Parsons Jewell in the Mary Evans Collection.

Animal encountersEncounters with animals have a special attraction for readers but recalling their mention can be a challenge.
